Simply Folk
October 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$10The Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin (CAS) will present Simply Folk on Saturday, October 19th 7PM at First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Avenue in Racine. This joy-filled collaboration will kick off CAS’s 38th season of presenting high-quality, innovative choral programs.
Simply Folk will be an evening of enjoying the greatest folk songs ever written, performed by some of the best singer-songwriters Racine has ever produced. Featuring “locally grown” talents, Simply Folk will offer solo trio sets, chorus sets, combined chorus, and trio pieces. Mark Paffrath and Zachary Scott Johnson will be joined by Marytha Paffrath—of the world music ensemble, Libana—who will return to Racine as they all join with CAS to present songs by Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, and Joni Mitchell.
The concert also includes a new CAS initiative, Youth Guest Soloists, showcasing emerging high school musicians along with the chorus. New arrangements have been commissioned from Gregory Berg and a new composition by Carthage College’s Margaret Burk entitled Happy Are Those Who Sing With All Their Heart will make this an unforgettable evening!
When asked about this concert, Maestro Schatzman said, “This program features a new choral work, and multiple arrangements never before heard. They will also be performed by Racine-born artists who are all making a living presenting live performances nationwide! CAS is bringing together composers, arrangers, and singer/songwriters to create a completely new experience with some of the most memorable songs by America’s most gifted and recognizable recording artists.”
Included with Admission is a pre-concert event from 5:45-6:30PM “Folk Ways” with Marytha Paffrath.
