United States Air Force Band of Mid-America
HOT BRASS
Free Concert at Monument Square
Friday, July 2
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
The United States air Force Band of Mid-America's Hot Brass offers a unique product sure to please music lovers of all types. During this spectacular concert, you are likely to hear funk, jazz, blues, soul, zydeco, swing and country as well as the latest pop hits. Hot Brass represents the pride and professionalism found every day throughout the United States Air Force.
Hot Brass defies conventional definition by thriving on diversity and creating a musical gumbo of genres to exploit each musician's musical background. The 10-piece group utilizes vocals, drums and guitar to entice audiences to move their feet while also paying tribute to their brass roots: front-line tuba functioniong in lieu of electric bass, a "beefed-up" horn section and heavy emphasis on brass.
Throughout the Midwest, Hot Brass serves as musical ambassadors for the Air Force in free civic outreach concerts. In 2008, the group deployed to the Area of Responsibility (AOR) in Southwest Asia, the Middle East and North Africa in support of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. They brought a taste of home to the hard-working men and women of the US military and coalition forces and they carried a message of good will to people of all ages throughout the AOR.
